WindWings® is a three-element rigid sail with patented technology from BART in the UK. The camber(shape) and angle of attack to the wind are fully adjustable to ensure the optimal configuration is always achievable, maximizing its aerodynamic performance. WindWing's performance has been independently verified by renowned fluid dynamics research institutions Wolfson Unit and Lloyds, and certified by DNV.

Product Description

WindWings® is a patented three-element rigid sail with a global patent, featuring a combination structure of steel and composite materials. It can automatically adjust the angle and camber of the sail based on the collected signals, generating more than 2.5 times the lift compared to a single-wing sail, maximizing the aerodynamic performance of the sail. The product has obtained the AlP certificate and design type approval by DNV and BV. At present, the real ship fuel saving result of the product has been verified by DNV.

The product has configured multiple operating modes to fit different ship navigation, berthing and operational conditions under storm conditions.The product applied on bulk carriers requires consideration of the opening and closing of hatch covers and the operation of loading and unloading equipment, therefore, it can be installed at the cross deck between cargo holds. Considering these factors, the product is designed to rotate in laydown position to keep clearance with hatch covers and loading and unloading machinery.

At present, the bulk carriers equipped with WindWings® have been in operation for over one year and has docked and unloaded at more than 20 major ports worldwide and performing well.

1. WING CONTROL & SAFETY SYSTEM: Provides complete control automation, health & safety alarm monitoring. On the vessel interface for manual wing interaction, maintenance processes, etc.

2. AUTOMATED ALIGNMENT & CAMBER CHANGE: Undertakes the performance aspects of the control, customised on a vessel-by-vessel basis. This bespoke code determines the optimum wing orientation and camber shape, ensuring maximum fuel savings at all times. Additionally, reports live thrust values.

3. WEATHER ROUTING FOR MAXIMUM WIND BENEFIT: A custom state-of-the-art routing package developed specifically for Wind Assisted Vessels. Assessable via a web interface, accessible either by a shore-based ops team and/or onboard with a variety of automated workflow tools to aid efficient use.

4. ROBUST CONSTRUCTION: Manufactured from "ship grade steel", Industrial E-glass composites, marine grade hydraulics and control components with minimal wear components.

5. SIMPLE OPERATION & MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS: Regular servicing is simple and well known to a crew- similar to a deck crane without the draw gear. Long-term maintenance and servicing packages available.

6. CLASS APPROVAL: Full class approval from DNV, LR, and BV.

7. LONG LIFE: Design, engineered, and approved for a 25-year life without major component replacement. It can be transferred between vessels.

8. TILT MECHANISMS: Above and below deck "tilt tables" available to suit installation requirement. Fixed also possible.
